Event Description

A 3 day training course which builds the skills and knowledge needed for effective multi-stakeholder collaboration.

To register to attend please email info@thepartneringinitiative.org

Partnership is often the most effective way to solve complex social and global problems, and collaboration is now an established method and basis for sustainable change. Increasing amounts of government, business and civil society initiatives are being launched with partnership and collaboration at the centre.

However, effective collaboration is not just a principle but a process, one that can be complex and challenging. Success requires a particular skill set and knowledge of partnering processes. With these critical elements in place, partnerships can achieve real impact. Without them, partnerships are likely to under-perform or fail altogether.

Who is the course for?

The Essential Skills for Effective Partnering course is a 3 day course for staff and consultants from all sectors who wish to make their collaborations more effective and build knowledge and skills to enable successful collaboration.

Aims of the course

By the end of the course, participants will have gained:

  •  Understanding of the rationale for, and risks of, partnering and when, and when not, to partner;
  •  Appreciation of the drivers, societal roles and mindset of each sector;
  • Clarity over what constitutes a ‘transactional collaboration’, what is a ‘genuine partnership’ and where each may be appropriate;
  • Appreciation of the ‘guiding principles’, challenges and success factors behind effective partnership;
  • Understanding over what it takes to be a ‘good’ partner, and development of some of the skills and mindset required;
  • Understanding how to create agreements, implement, manage & review partnerships successfully;
  • Familiarity with the ‘Partnering Cycle’, a framework for the development and management of partnership

Participants in the course can optionally submit for a Certificate in Partnering Practice.
