Dear Georgia
Governments are looking inward, to address domestic economic and social problems in the wake of the global economic crisis. In this environment, it will be interesting to see how aid evolves over the next year or so. There is likely to be even less traction for private-public partnerships in Africa, at a time that access to development finance has dried-up because of the crisis in the financial markets. These, combined with growing trade protectionism, should prompt governments and multilateral organizations to re-think international cooperation. Will the G20 (due to convene in London (UK) tomorrow) offer some indication on a new model? What new issues will then clutter the WTO's Doha Round.agenda, and make it even more difficult to achieve broader consensus on a new rules governing international trade?
Will be glad to get your perspective. Thank you.
