About my work:
I am an online activist for women's rights and passionate about the eradication of FGM/C

Orchid Project

My cause End FGM Now renamed itself and became the Orchid Project on 1st June 2010 - www.orchidproject.org - led by Julia Lalla-Maharajh, our frontline ambassador breaking the taboos of FGM/C through her wonderful advocacy work.

Julia is a finalist for an Influencer Award, one of the Social Change Awards online this year. For her advocacy work to break the taboos around Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation, Julia has been chosen out of 700 nominations. Please vote for her online to win as many times as you like. Here is her message:-

Dear All

Voting for me may sound familiar to some of you - this one is a bit less high profile than Davos but nevertheless, would be a great one for the cause of female genital cutting to win!

Please can you access the website http://www.socialchangeawards.org.uk/vote.html - there's a black "Click here to vote" button to click. Then you vote by clicking the round button next to the name. I am up for an "Influencer" award. You can just vote in one category or in many.

For now, vote now and vote often (there are apparently no limits on votes!)

With my thanks, as ever

Julia

And my thanks for helping our cause, The Orchid Project, to gain much needed publicity through this competition.

Hi Linda,

Thankyou so much. That is great vision nad let us join hands, minds, hearts and every thing we can to lift those disadvantaged women in Ethiopia..who are suffering from shouldering triple burdens- household chores which is not as such considered/recognized by many people, cultiral burdens(gender inequality), disempowerment(economic, political, lack of access to opportunities..)..though now adays some women penetrating and fighting such obstacles but still million ethiopian girls/women are destitutes, they need our help, assistance for assertiveness, economic and political empowerment. Indeed the first thing is training, education, skills.... I can work with and work for making the life of some of these women live descent life..we can start with small project.. What do you think?
