Caribbean Artist Join Forces with the CMA to Fight Against Poverty In the Ghetto's of Jamaica
JUDY MOWATT, NORRIS WEIR, DOBBY DOBSON, CLIVE TENNOR, GODDY GODDY, & ISIAH MENTOR JOIN FORCES WITH SOUTH FLORIDA NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION TO FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY IN JAMAICA’S INNER-CITIES & GHETTOS
Caribbean Music Alliance, Inc. has organized a fifteen month U.S. benefit concert tour, “One-Love Unity Fest” to raise funds to fight against the growing poverty rate in Jamaica’s Inner-Cities & Ghettos. The economical and sociological conditions in the county of Jamaica are alarmingly poor. As a result, crime is at an all time high in the country and many of the citizens, especially those living in the Ghettos and Inner-Cities are forced to live in unthinkable conditions. Children are going to bed hungry and single mothers are forced into prostitution to provide a meal for their hungry children. Many Youths are turned out on the streets to fin for themselves, ultimately turning to gangs and a life of crime as a means of survival.
In third world countries such as Jamaica, there are no governmental programs to provide assistance to the poor and needy, (as we are so privileged & accustomed to have in the United States). The disadvantage citizens of these countries rely heavily on their relatives living outside of the country to send money, food, clothing, etc… that they are not able to obtain for themselves.
“While no one company or organization can single handedly wipe out the existence of poverty in Jamaica, we (The CMA), are making a conscious effort to do our part to lead a much needed fight against it by bringing awareness of the issues and working together with the Caribbean Artists and other organizations to raise funds to aid the people of Jamaica”, stated Rosemarie Mitchell, President and Founder of the organization.
The kick-off event for the fifteen month “One-Love Unity Fest” benefit concert tour is scheduled to be held on February 15, 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale Florida.
