Thank you sir for your comment. I am based in Muzaffarabad, the Pakistani part of Kashmir. It is the city which was struck and destroyed by a devastating earthquake back in October 8, 2005. The catastrophe killed about 87,000 people, thousands were wounded or maimed and millions other have been left homeless. People of my community are trying hard to recollect pieces of their shattered lives.

Coming from a Development work background I struggled with the decision on where I wanted to place myself as an entrepreneur. The temptation was to go the NGO way and look for donor funding to drive my agenda. I opted to go the way i was raised by my business parents. Creating sustainable business ventures that would act as catalyst to social empowerment of people. A breakaway from the begging culture of many NGO's.

Hi David, I presume you are familar with the Masaai tartan? You can source that ready made in a variety of colours. I sourced great woven fabrics from Bedi Investments Ltd in Nakuru, Kenya. Printing is another story! I had this done in Uganda but i would not recommend the factory I worked with. There is a great company in Dar Es Alam, Tanzania called African Pride Textile Mills. Hi David - I'm based in London at the moment, although I've been working predominantly in Malawi, South Africa and Zambia over the past many years, with one smaller project in Uganda. My interests, however, stem across all of Africa. Regards, Janet.

Unfortunately I wasn't involved in the textile industry so much, although I did have some affiliation with Miss Malawi pageants and fashion photography (a hobby of mine).

The closest thing I can think of is a connection I have with the Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA) in Bangwe (near Blantyre), Malawi. They run the Bangwe Weaving Factory (http://www.malawiproject.org/bangwe-factory-project-adds-yet-another-site/) where people in the disabled community are hired and trained to create various fabrics, art and crafts. I do recall a number of weaving devices in the factory and women/men making clothes, handbags, rugs, wall hangings, etc. This may not be what you are looking for, or at the scale you need, however if you would like an inside contact, let me know and I can pass on details.
