At the Lighting Africa 2008 conference, Richard Hosier, from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), explains how donor money can support front end activities, like market surveys and product sizing, to stir up the off-grid lighting market in Africa.
The global lighting industry met in Accra, Ghana on 6-8 May, to discuss off-grid lighting opportunities and remaining obstacles in Sub-Saharan Africa. The World Bank & IFC Lighting Africa program aims to provide clean, efficient and safe lighting to 250 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa who have no access to electricity.
